The squealing alpacas

Today was busy. I loaded up a huge 5 metre car-trailer WITH MY ENTIRE EX-BUNGALOW (in individual pieces) and drove it to my brother’s place in Scarsdale, about 2 hours away. He wanted to use some of the corrugated iron and timber for horse shelters, and the remainder for firewood. It was a very warm 39 degrees, and had I not had to cart two tonnes of metal and wood on narrow roads, I would have drunk a six-pack of beer in an hour. Whilst we were visiting, we got to look at all the improvements and additions to the property since our last visit – a luxury chook shed, and some raised garden beds they have made from a “what to do with old car tyres” recipe they got from Earth Garden. The highlight of the visit was meeting his latest acquisitions, two alpacas who haven’t got proper names yet. They’re both young, and were bought for their general cuteness, but also to protect the chickens and young cow from foxes. There have been problems with this approach – the alpacas seem to fear Brendan’s dogs, and emit a very strange, but endearing bird-like cry through their nostrils when threatened. I don’t think they’ll be doing any protecting for quite some time yet, but they do make for a great photo. alpacas.jpg
