The quest for a sub-15 (tick completed)

I’ve been running again a little lately, and that old measuring stick The Tan is my target as always. I’ve been slipping my way around the fine gravel on that thing during my lunchbreaks since at least 1993, and would have done about 500 circuits I would guess. In the early and mid 90’s when I was doing triathlons, I got in with a group that would average in the low 14’s, and I regularly ran 14:15-14:30’s, with a personal best of 13:51, but nowdays being a more occasional runner, it’s more of a challenge to break 16 minutes. A couple of months ago, I joined the Corporate Cup work team after a 5 year absence, and all the runners are pretty much high 14’s guys, so it’s perfect for getting me to improve. With a lot of desperation last week, I hung on with a stranger who normally runs mid 13’s and was having an easy training jog, to post a time of 15:12, after a 15:52 the first week. I ran so hard on this occasion, I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO LOSE CONTROL OF SOME BODILY FUNCTIONS on the last bend, and had to ease off slightly. I have one more CC run before my holidays and suddenly I am desperate to break 15 minutes for the first time in 5 years or possibly more. I’m going for a jog at lunchtime Friday as a preparation for next Wednesday’s trial. I’ll be devastated if I can’t make it. Wish me luck (I’ll post the time). Recorded times in the past year: 1st May – 17:22 5th May – 16:29 16th August – 15:52 13th September – 15:12 18th September – 15:30(ish) UPDATE: 27th September – 14:48 (and it killed me)
