Second go at Wikipedia

I *am* on my holidays now, and so I didn’t feel too guilty this morning logging on to my Wikipedia account and (inspired by Michael Dart) making a second attempt at creating an entry for Patrick White’s novel The Vivisector. I can’t remember if I’ve already written about my previous attempt to contribute to this site, but in a nutshell, I got excited about creating a little piece of knowledge in the world’s most popular reference site and a site that according to Alexa (who made these guys the official popularity monitor folks for the whole net anyway?) slightly outranks Amazon as the 17th most hit-upon site on the net – and is rising with a bullet. But last time I just tried to create a placeholder (or what they call a stub) for the book, the whole thing was ruthlessly deleted within a day (without any trace or comments). I didn’t make the grade, and didn’t deserve to, with an entry that in its totality said “This page is a stub for the Patrick White novel “The Vivisector”. wikipedia.gif
I’ve since got myself aquainted with the minimal stub requirements which are alarmingly complicated at first, but the usual copy another and make changes method seems to work fine. So this morning, my next and more serious attempt to create a stub has taken place. I’ve subscribed to the WatchPage facility, SO I CAN KEEP TABS ON THE BASTARDS WHO SEEK TO DEFILE MY WORK, as I’m curious as to whether anyone really gives a shit. I’m actually hoping people from the PWRG get a bit involved and improve it – though I fear everyone has finished it and moved on.
