Is it a shed or a big cubby?

The backyard has been looking fairly grim of late. Haphazard plantings from my native phase are struggling in the drying dirt – summer is here. One side-effect from being a little more atuned to plants and nature that I used to be is that I find it depressing to notice signs of stressed shrubs in the warmer months such as these. And it hasn’t even gotten hot yet. So, it’s a blessing that we finally decided to revamp the backyard – it’s an excuse to clear out the sick and ugly, and obliterate that monster of a Pittosporum Undulatum in the back corner (not the gum in the pictures). A 6m x 3m asbestos walled bungalow, which I consider the most solid building on our property has occupied almost the whole left hand side of the yard for probably 50 years. I think people lived in it at one stage. Nowdays it leaks and the timber fascia is rotting away. We’re excited about what we could do with the real-estate once the thing is gone – and quite a job that’s going to be. The first step was to get a new smaller shed and move things from one to the other. I don’t fancy the metal sheds with no floor, so I rang a mob called Aaron’s Outdoors and we got a treated pine version that looks suspiciously like an extended kids cubbyhouse last week. The salesperson was great, but her installers were younger and sloppier. The door seems to be warped by a large amount and they placed the stumps on the outside corners of the timber plates, instead of the centres. It’s also not lined up with the house properly. I promised myself awhile back I wouldn’t fuss about these things, but BUGGER IT, THESE COWBOYS NEED AN OCCASIONAL COMPLAINT and I think I might make it today. Otherwise, very happy with the shed.
